Education is a fundamental service of Five Rivers; every care is taken to ensure each child and young person is given the best possible chance to succeed. Our education facilities are selected to provide a warm, welcoming and predictable environment where pupils can begin to trust in the competence, reliability and caring concern of the adult world and to make significant progress in their learning. A therapeutic dimension along with a curriculum which offers breadth, balance and choice provides the foundation to address pupils often complex needs.

Great emphasis is placed on building trusting relationships that are important in themselves and the vital foundations for more age-appropriate learning and growing. This combination enables individual plans and targets for every child looked after encouraging them through to GCSE and beyond. One of the aims of the Every Child Matters agenda for Children Looked After to have improved ‘stability and security’ in their placements.

We aim to ease the potentially traumatic transition for our pupils by developing responsive and caring exit strategies to allow our school community and the child to have a positive experience of leaving and moving onto the next stage. We plan to consult with the pupils themselves, staff and other professionals who can be helpful with this important aspect of school life.

In addition to local delivery through school units, we are offering an online education resource so that those who are isolated can access education remotely There is much we wish to celebrate and make available to every young person to ensure that they are given the opportunity to learn at all levels.
