End of term update from Park House School

The Park House team have worked hard in school and from home throughout the Covid-19 crisis to ensure our young people have the best possible experiences during the difficult time. Their dedication to the school and the young people has meant that no child has not had contact with their staff during the lockdown.

Park House is a small, therapeutic-based school which offers specialist education for young people aged 8-19 who need it. Find out more about Park House School.

Since the introduction of Covid-19 restrictions, exciting work packs and resources including science experiments have been delivered to the homes. They have also grown butterflies, checked on PH levels of soil, grown vegetables in the soil and made a piece of furniture amongst other things.

The children all had the opportunity to take part in a lockdown art project sponsored and resourced by the Rotary Club with GO Create Taunton. Their work is set to be exhibited locally as part of an ‘Art in Isolation’ display.

The young people have been cooking wonderful meals at home to complete AQA unit awards and work towards NCFE and ASDAN qualifications. One young person even managed to sit their maths exam the day before lockdown and passed! We are so proud of them.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Long, well-planned walks and new skills have been completed by the Duke of Edinburgh award team, including building Flossy the sheep for the school garden out of recycled materials. One of the young people managed to complete all available sections of the Bronze D of E award! Sadly, the overnight walk could not go ahead due to Covid-19. The student will be proceeding onto silver next year and hopes to volunteer with a local carnival club (for Europe’s largest illuminated carnival) and to volunteer as a photographer and in other roles for CPRE, The Countryside Charity.

More news from Park House

  • The Park House school telescope has been home with a student and such was his passion for the subject the charity that gave us the telescope have sent him his own one to keep, an amazingly generous gift!
  • Their ex higher level teaching assistant, Olympic athlete Laura Gallagher, has done messages and fitness videos for the students so they can share in her training regime ready for the Olympics next year.

Life has continued as the ‘new normal’ for the staff and children at Park House. They will be holding our celebration days for the students’ wonderful work and achievements next year, rather than at the end of the summer term.
