How long have you worked at Five Rivers?
I joined in 2015.
What do you do?
I’m something of a ‘Jack of all Trades’ within the Comms team. I take responsibility for our advertising, brand and events, but support the team on a wide number of projects. I love that my job is varied, and no two days are the same.
Have you always worked in Child Care Services?
Yes. I first applied to work at Five Rivers when I finished my Business and Management Degree at University. I was keen to work somewhere where I could make a difference, and know that I was making a positive change – even if I am a small cog in the bigger wheel.
Tell us a bit about your career?
I first joined Five Rivers as the HR Graduate and worked in the team supporting recruitment and general HR admin. I worked in the team for six months, before I was offered the opportunity to joining the Business Support team. I enjoyed getting to work with a different team and learning more about the organisation and the sector.
At this point, I was offered the opportunity to visit one of our homes, Avon House. Following the visit, they invited me to do a shadow shift in the home. This was a fantastic opportunity which I really enjoyed, and I then became a Sessional Residential Child Care Worker for two years!
Having the opportunity to see life in Residential care ‘for real’ was an amazing experience, and it made me realise the importance of what Five Rivers do, and how we genuinely help children and young people.
During my time with the Business Development team, I was asked to support the Comms team one day a week whilst they were going through a busy period. It was a steep learning curve, but I was well supported, and eventually joined the team full time. Five years later, I’m still here!
I’ve been lucky enough to work with some brilliant Marketing professionals and I’ve learnt a lot. The support given to me by Five Rivers has been amazing, and I’m lucky enough to have worked with people from across all levels of the organisation.
What is the best thing about working at Five Rivers?
I love working for an organisation which is 100% committed to their mission. I get to shine a light on our children’s achievements and help to break down the stigma around the care experience. As part of my work with the Residential service, I get to share the stories which will see Residential be seen through the lens it deserves.
How does Five Rivers support you in your career?
Five Rivers has been incredibly supportive and allowed me to find my place within the organisation, working for a fantastic team. I’ve learnt so much in my time here, and they continue to allow me new experiences to strengthen my skill set, and recently, allowing me to specialise within my area
