Rosie – Assistant Marketing and Communications Manager
Rosie works in our central services department at our head office in Salisbury. She plays a pivotal role in supporting our fostering team to recruit more foster carers, as well as to promote the organisation to wider audiences.
How long have you worked at Five Rivers?
I joined in 2015.
What do you do?
I handle all aspects of communications from social media to events management, recruitment advertising and developing brochures to help get our message out. I am mainly office-based but I do get to travel to our fostering offices and events. My job is varied and no two days are the same.
Have you always worked in Child Care Services?
Yes. I applied to Five Rivers after leaving Uni because they are a well-known employer in the town and the work they do for young people is impressive.
Tell us a bit about your career?
When I started out I was in the admin team, supporting HR and contracting. Five Rivers encourage staff to get experience in the field so I trained in a residential home under the supervision of the registered manager for a while. I got an insight into how therapeutic care works. I asked if I could blog about the experience and they said yes! Then I started one day a week supporting the marketing team. It was hard work but I learned on the job and a couple of years ago I transitioned to being full-time in marketing.
What is the best thing about working at Five Rivers?
Just love being part of a team of people who are absolutely 100% committed to what they do! I get to share our young people’s achievements as part of our commitment to getting their voices heard. Mainly I feel proud of we have done to try to break down the barriers of stigma around the care experience. It’s so important to get across the positive impact of care, especially when the media focuses on bad news.
How does Five Rivers support you in your career?
I rate Five Rivers for being flexible to give me the freedom to develop new skills and discover talents in marketing. Most of what I have learned has been through finding solutions to communications challenges. That is the best way to grow as a person. They’ve promoted me to Assistant Manager in recognition of the contribution I have made so far and that feels good.
