Meet another Five Rivers Hero
Name: Laura Gallagher
Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant, 1ACE Education Outreach
It takes grit to be a sporting champion and world champion Laura Gallagher has more than most – when she’s not winning medals she’s looking after children who struggle with education.
Laura Gallagher is a Higher Level Teaching Assistant for Five Rivers’ 1ACE – an outreach provision for children for whom mainstream education has failed. She is also studying for an Open University BSc Psychology Degree in her spare time.
Laura won a team Bronze for GB in the World Trampolining Championships in Bulgaria in November 2017. What is more remarkable Laura bounced back after a period of time out of the sport after a back injury, which saw Laura unable to jump for almost a year, and subsequent challenges (both mental and physical) on her return from injury took its toll, resulting in time completely away from the sport. She was also diagnosed with thyroid disease and coeliac disease which means Laura must take daily tablets and strictly adhere to a gluten-free diet for the rest of her life, something which can prove difficult especially when travelling abroad. To manage this, Laura takes her own food with her to competitions.
Five Rivers are recruiting remarkable people to work across their children’s care services – find out what vacancies are on offer:
