Five Rivers Child Care celebrates its 30th Anniversary
Monday 23 September 2019
On the 19th September, the social enterprise Five Rivers Child Care, celebrates 30 years since its first child was placed.
Founded by Pam McConnell in 1989, Five Rivers Child Care has cared for thousands of children over the last 30 years. The first children’s home was setup in Salisbury in response to a need for specialist, therapeutic support for children in the care system. Today, Five Rivers has seven residential children’s homes, four registered specialist schools and a national fostering service.
To mark the anniversary year, Five Rivers will be running 30 different projects. Each project will benefit the children it looks after and the local communities it operates in. It is also hoped that the projects will help to raise awareness of the incredible work the local children’s services do.
Pam McConnell, CEO and Founder said “I am delighted to be celebrating our 30th anniversary and proud to be part of sector-leading organisation that makes a real impact to the lives of society’s most vulnerable children and young people.
Whilst our services have evolved and grown, our ethos and commitment to turning children’s lives around has not wavered.
As we celebrate 30 years of Five Rivers, we look forward to another 30. We will continue to provide high quality therapeutic homes and families for children and young people.
Our staff and foster carers do a phenomenal job, I cannot commend them highly enough for the work they do every day”.
With an estimated shortfall of nearly 6,000 foster carers across the UK, the demand for foster families remains a permanent challenge as does recruiting residential care workers. As part of our 30th year – we call anyone interested in making a positive and lasting difference to the lives of children and young people to join the Five Rivers Family today – www.five-rivers.org
