Fostering career 4: 28-Day emergency placements – what is it?
People with transferable skills from nursing or residential care or who grew up in a fostering family could be well-placed to become emergency foster carers.
This type of care bridges the gap between foster placements and reunification with friends, family, or returning home. The work is well-suited to those previously employed in roles such as nursing or in residential care – easily transferable skills and qualities. You would be looking after children under the age of 18 for 28 days or less, during which you would receive an increased fostering allowance.
Five Rivers foster carer, Sheron Barnes says….”We’ve looked after mothers and their babies as well as emergency placements where a child needs somewhere to stay for a short time at very short notice. No two are ever the same and all are equally rewarding.”
A career in foster care offers many benefits including competitive rates of pay and flexible working. For more information about fostering contact Five Rivers on 01722 622492 or visit fostering services.
