Five Rivers in Chesterfield is holding an open day on May 16th

Our Chesterfield team is inviting members of the local community to stop by for an informal chat about fostering opportunities in the area, as the East Midlands faces a current shortfall of 500 foster carers. As part of Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from Monday 13th – Sunday 26th May, the team will be at the Five Rivers Child Care Chesterfield office at the Market Hall on Thursday May 16th to inform and educate prospective foster carers on a career in fostering.

The information events are a great opportunity to learn more about our fostering services across the East Midlands and to meet some of our amazing carers. We are currently looking for new carers to take on both long and short-term placements, for children in need of urgent or respite care.

Gordon Chinchen, Fostering Operations Manager for Chesterfield said: “There is an urgent need for Chesterfield residents to step up to the challenge of foster care. Hundreds of children’s lives could be changed for the better by a loving, supporting home and foster family.

“We understand there are concerns and misconceptions around what a career in foster care entails. We are here to bring clarity to the people of Chesterfield and help them understand the difference they could make to the life of a young person.

“Prospective carers can have an informal, no strings attached conversation with current foster carers and our social workers at the event and learn more about local opportunities in foster care.”

People from all walks of life can become foster carers as long as they are over 21 years of age. This includes single people, co-habiting couples, same sex couples and people living in rented accommodation – the only requirement is a private bedroom for each foster child.
