Saltburn Athletic U9 Wave Flags at Middlesbrough vs Derby
Saltburn Athletic U9’s, who are sponsored by Five Rivers Child Care, were thrilled to be given the opportunity to take part in the Championship fixture between Middlesbrough and Derby on the 11th January at the Riverside Stadium.
The boys were invited to wave flags before the game, and to have the opportunity to watch all the action, with 4 goals scored in the game!
Five Rivers began sponsoring the Saltburn Athletic U9’s in 2019, providing them with tracksuits for training; The squad of 13 children age 8 and 9 have been together since August 2018 when the team was formed. They train once a week and play on a Sunday morning in the TJFA (Teesside Junior Football Alliance) league. Win, lose or draw they do so with a smile on their faces. The team were promoted last year to a higher division, a tough start to the season meant they have had to battle for their wins, but the boys turn out rain or shine to give it their all.
Five Rivers Team Manager, Susan Smith said “The boys are an enthusiastic bunch who just love their football. We are delighted that they have found such a love for football as we try to encourage our young people to participate in sports as it can improve physical and mental health.”
“Five Rivers supports the boys mostly for the way they play the game for each other, always supporting their teammates, congratulating each other on their successes and consoling each other when it doesn’t quite go to plan. Football for these boys is about teamwork, building confidence, resilience and is an important part of what the club does.”
