Fostering Stories

Carole Ann Carmichael, 58, and husband Simon, 59, foster with us as respite carers. As a teacher for more than 35 years, Carole Ann has dedicated her career to making a difference to the lives of her pupils. However, after witnessing many of her own pupils in the care system lacking both academic and educational support, Carole Ann and Simon began the application process to become respite foster carers.

“A teaching background helps us to understand the experience of the child. It is often difficult to imagine what these children have gone through, but we try to do our best to make their stay with us as easy as possible. Sometimes we have the same child stay with us multiple times, which is always a nice feeling because we already know what works for them and they know us.
