Clannad celebrates ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating with a Cultural Food Festival
We are thrilled to share that our children’s residential home, Clannad, in Bromley, has been awarded a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating for the 10th consecutive year, and celebrated this achievement by throwing a cultural food festival for the children and young people, and staff.
Clannad provides care for looked after children and young people, aged 6 – 12, who have been impacted by trauma, abuse and neglect. This month, when they heard the news that they had received a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating, the staff were keen to celebrate this achievement with the children and organised a cultural food festival, a firm favourite amongst the children.
Clannad, has hosted similar events to help teach children in care about diversity and different cultures in a fun and interactive way, which Ofsted commented on in their recent report:
“Children participate in fun day-to-day experiences. For example, during the pandemic, staff organised a cultural celebration fun day. Staff prepared international and regional food. Displays of national flags and traditional costumes added to the festival. The children enjoyed the food and dancing.”
The family food festival that took place at the home earlier this month featured fresh, made from scratch, food cooked by Head of Children’s Residential Services, Sarah Stefano, and professional Chef, Warren Hoile. Warren has been working alongside the residential service over the last year to teach the children about the importance of eating healthy, and how to cook their favourite meals. Adults and children also enjoyed dancing to Nigerian music, as well as some 90s classics, and everyone enjoyed playing games in the garden.
Clannad’s Registered Manager, Naome Muzeremwi, said: “We are thrilled to have received this external recognition to show that we are providing a safe and loving home for the many children and young people in our care. At Clannad, we are all one big family, and we like to celebrate our achievements. We’re always thinking of different ways to educate and have fun with our children. Celebrating cultural diversity is a huge part of our ethos at Clannad, and our cultural events are always a big hit, so when we received the news of our Ofsted rating, we knew this would be the best way to celebrate.
“Achieving a “Good” Ofsted rating for the tenth consecutive year is a huge achievement and a testament to the excellent work which the team does. We remain committed to providing the best care to our children and young people and allowing them the childhoods they truly deserve.”
