Everything we do at Clannad is focused on meeting the needs of our children and young people. Our practice is child centred, trauma informed and therapeutic. Our interventions promote learning, growth and development in children with good outcomes for them in mind. Our home will provide a safe and nurturing environment, full of love and laughter where children can feel safe and valued.

Clannad is a small children’s home based in Greater London, providing specialist care to children aged 6-12. This small group-living home offers a truly integrated trauma-informed approach, combining care, education and therapy, designed in a bespoke manner to meet the needs of the children, and aiming to prepare them (over a minimum of a two-year period) for a long term ‘forever family’.

The Clannad staff team are of mixed-gender with a high level of experience, training and knowledge relating to the children and young people, and the difficulties and trauma they may have experienced. They work in a therapeutic, trauma informed manner, incorporating psycho-education and milieu (planned environment) therapy; and are able to recognise the difficulties that the children and young people can experience when considering the impact of early life trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and disrupted attachments.

“The home provides a comfortable and stable environment and staff are sensitive and caring.”
Regulation 44, 2019

The children are at the heart of all Clannad do, and everything is focused on meeting the needs of the children. Practice is trauma-informed, child-centric and therapeutic, with interventions promoting learning, growth and development. Clannad provides a safe and nurturing environment, full of love, fun and laughter where everyone feels valued.

“Children settle quickly into the home and therefore form positive and affectionate relationships with staff. The staff and registered manager are very child-focused and want to give children positive experiences. A parent said that staff ‘look after my child very well’ and an independent reviewing officer thought a child’s progress was ‘much better than anticipated.'”
Ofsted, 2019

The implementation of consistency, boundaries and routine, therapy, education, the therapeutic environment and psycho-education, means that the children have made successful, positive changes to their lives, developed new coping skills and started to understand their own past, emotions and behaviour, attend education full time and shown a significant reduction in incidents of violent/aggressive and sexualised behaviours. The children have been able to develop healthy relationships with staff and others around them and have been able to engage in a number of activities to further increase their confidence and self-esteem.
