Full details:

Have you ever considered fostering a child or young person in need, but have questions to ask before taking the next steps?

Come and meet us over a cup of coffee and a piece of cake to find out more about the incredible career as a foster carer and the opportunity to join an excellent team focused on making a positive change in children’s lives.

On Tuesday 23 April, our Wiltshire team – which has received the Ofsted ‘outstanding’ judgement, one of very few in the South West – will be hosting an information event at the Athenaeum Centre in Warminster and will be able to answer any queries you may have.

Helen Mead, one of our foster carers from Devizes, will also be there to share her first-hand experiences of what it’s like to foster.

Helen first thought about fostering when she was in her early twenties and working as a volunteer with vulnerable young children who had little or no contact with their birth parents. When Helen was 28, she and her husband, became respite foster carers which meant they took in children or young people on a short-term basis due to a family emergency or to give their regular foster carers a break.

It was only once Helen was pregnant with her first child in 2004 that they made the decision to start fostering full-time. Since then, Helen has fostered 13 children in total alongside her own two biological children over her 15-year career as a foster carer.

With a current shortage of 540 foster families in the south west, the need for foster carers like Helen to support young vulnerable people is more pressing than ever.

If you would like to know more about how you can help, the personal and career benefits of fostering, or would just like an informal chat with our team, you are warmly welcome to join us on Tuesday.

If you can’t make the event but would still like to find more information on foster care, call 0345 266 0272 or email carer.enquiries@five-rivers.org
