New film series celebrates diversity in Five Rivers Fostering
Care Leaver Mindy speaks about her experiences of ‘careism’ in the first episode of our film series “Celebrating Diversity in Five Rivers”
The Five Rivers National Youth Council suggested in 2016 that we create a series of short films promoting and celebrating diversity within Five Rivers. We thought it was a great idea, so we commissioned our participation office to create a series of short online films about young people in care and other people from marginalised groups.
The idea of these films is to give the children, young people, foster carers and staff an opportunity to hear from these young people and adults.
During June and July 2017 we will release one film a week to all foster carers*.
The topics are:
- Living in Care and Careism
- Disabled people
- Ethnicity
- Transgender
- Religion
- Race
- Ageism
- Sexuality
- Gender
Diversity and equality are cornerstone values to Five Rivers Fostering. We hope that all our carers and young people will watch these fascinating films and learn a lot from the amazing people who have been interviewed and be inspired by how they have fought back against discrimination and challenged stereotypes. Many children watching these films will be able to identify with the people interviewed and we hope this will help them connect their own experiences and not feel so alone.
We thank the Youth Council 2016 for their brilliant idea – we’d never have done this without you!
