Life Blogger Series: Life with Luna by The Camel of Calm
Sunday 01 December 2024
It was a Wednesday, May the 12th, 2021. A new door opened to loud barking, I felt immediately relieved to know there was a dog welcoming me. Then immediately overwhelmed. A new home, new people, new smells, different voices, two people and lots of furry animals, everywhere!
She is called Luna, or Lune dog.
She came straight over to me like the police sniffer dogs do. I stood there still with a trembling fear that she might bite me, or just know!
She tried to lick me to death instead, this made me smile and warmed my tummy. Strangely at the same time, I started to cry. My head wanted me to go back home, but my heart began to love Lune Dog.
As I stroked her glossy golden brown and black short coat, my breathing changed, my throat felt less burning. Just like how I feel with a big soft teddy bear on my chest taking away the day’s worries, and stress.
I looked into her deep dark eyes.
I knew, she knows how it feels to be cold, hungry and scared!

Excited woofing at the window, the doggy dance begins, a tail looking like a helicopter propeller.
I’m happy knowing there’s someone waiting for me.
Finally, she sees me, she runs, like a gazelle to get to me, you see she’s a Jack Russel crossed with a Whippet, fast! She was woofing and wagging all the time!
My heart bursts through my chest as fast as a formula 1 car.
Next thing I know, I’m on the floor and she’s licking my nose!
This love literally knocks me over!
Life before Lune Dog, there was no excited woofing at the window, only my Headteacher knocking at the door to make sure I was ok.
Luna taught me how to love and hug. She’s always there when I need her, loving me even when I’m sad, bad, naughty or nice.
She loves me just for me!
My heart gets melted, just like snowmen in the sunshine when she sits on my chest and all my bad stuff melts with it!
She’s like a best friend who I can tell my secrets and worries to.
Life is warmer, safer and happier with Luna by my side.
