Have you ever considered becoming a Foster Carer but worried about the long-term commitment? We are looking for Cornwall Carers for Cornwall Children who could offer a child a safe, loving home in an emergency, on a short-term basis.

You would join a vibrant community of Foster Carers, looking after children whilst a suitable, longer-term foster family is found.

When a child unexpectedly needs a new home, there isn’t always a suitable long-term foster family available to look after them. As an emergency foster carer, you will offer a safe environment at very short notice. Children will stay with you for a relatively short time, 28 days at the most, until a suitable longer-term home can be found.

Children need emergency foster homes for a whole number of reasons; working in partnership with a team of specialists, you could help vulnerable children feel safe and loved in the most desperate of situations.

This flexible fostering arrangement allows caring, compassionate people the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children in emergency situation, giving a short-term home to children in Cornwall (up to 28 days) while a suitable longer-term home is found.

To join our community of emergency foster carers, you need to:

  • Be fully committed to making a difference in children’s lives.
  • Have enough flexibility in your personal life to accommodate children in need, often at short notice.
  • Be over the age of 21.
  • Have a furnished spare room that is not used by anyone else.
  • Be a resident in the UK.

As a short-term emergency foster carer, you will join a local Social Enterprise offering 24/7 support and excellent training. You will also receive a generous fostering allowance. Emergency Foster Carers are also paid a weekly retainer fee for the periods they are available to care but do not have a child placed with them
