LGBT+ Fostering

Working with the LGBT+ Community

Did you know that more than 60% of Britons are unaware that people from the LGBT+ community can foster? At Five Rivers Child Care, we are committed to supporting our foster carers from the LGBT+ community and guiding singles and couples through the application process. Equality, diversity, and inclusivity is an integral part of Five Rivers’ ethos which is reflected in the services we provide, and in the service provided by our staff. Above all else, we want to ensure our children are placed in a supportive, nurturing environment, where they are cared for and feel safe.

We welcome you to call or email us with any questions or visit our page on becoming a foster carer for more information.

Annabelle and Sally’s Story

It’s important to us to dispel the misconceptions around LGBT+ fostering. We recently partnered with Some Families, the UK’s first LGBT+ parenting podcast series to share Annabelle and Sally’s fostering journey.

Misconceptions about same-sex couples and LGBT+ individuals could be impacting foster care recruitment

There are common misconceptions about same-sex couples and LGBT+ individuals which could be impacting foster care recruitment.

Gender, sexuality, religion or ethnicity does not stop someone from becoming a foster carer. Some of our most amazing foster carers are from the LGBT+ community and it’s extremely important to us that we have foster carers from all backgrounds to reflect the diversity of those youngsters in the care system.
