How to Celebrate Foster Care Fortnight

Five Rivers Child Care is continuing its tradition of celebrating Foster Care Fortnight, and the incredible work of foster carers across the country. This year, we are asking our foster carers to join in on the celebrations and help us raise awareness of the rewards of fostering and the difference it can make to a child’s life, and to yours. More than ever, we need more foster carers to help us in our mission to turn children’s lives around, and to do so, we need your help to reach those who might be interested.

Foster Care Fortnight takes place every year in May, to raise awareness of the transformational power of fostering and to celebrate the incredible fostering community. This year’s Foster Care Fortnight is from 10 – 23 May, and the theme is #WhyWeCare.

During the campaign, we will be using our social media pages to bang the drum for fostering, educate people on the requirements of becoming a foster carer and draw attention to the difference it can make to a child’s life.

Here are some ways you can get involved!

Facebook

Add profile picture frame to your Facebook – you can do this by:

Make sure you are logged onto Facebook and click the link below that is relevant to you, and select ‘use as profile picture’ on the bottom right.

Five Rivers Child Care
Safehouses Fostering
The Fostering Company North East
Foster Careline

Encourage those who reach out to you to mention your name when they contact the carer enquiries team, as that means you could be eligible for up to £1,000!

Make a Video

Take a short video on your phone (selfie style) and tell us why you decided to care for children and young people. Remember the theme of this year’s Foster Care Fortnight is #WhyWeCare. We will be making a compilation of all the videos we receive and will be using this on our social media pages. We know it can be daunting, but your videos will really help us to raise awareness of the joys of fostering and the many reasons why people decide to foster. It doesn’t have to be long 10 – 20 seconds will do, or more if you’re feeling brave! Please send your short video to [email protected]

Keep an eye on our Facebook for our video featuring our foster carers!

Write a Blog

We are looking for volunteers to contribute to our blog!

We’re looking for foster carers to write about their fostering story, and about why you decided to care for children and young people. We can also help you to tell your story by writing a blog on your behalf if you’d prefer to chat with us on the phone about your experiences.

Everyone from across the Five Rivers’ Family is welcome to take part including foster carers from Five Rivers, Foster Careline, Safehouses Fostering, and The Fostering Company North East. Tell us why you care! If you’re interested in writing a blog or if you’d like some more information, please email [email protected].

We’re also looking for sons and daughters from fostering families, whose birth parents foster, to write a blog. There are many people out there that are interested in fostering but are not sure how it will affect their own children. We’re keen to hear from children who have welcomed foster children into their homes and find out about some of the ways they make them feel happy and comfortable in their new surroundings. Previously when children have submitted blogs to us we’ve been told they’ve included it on their CV – so this could be a great opportunity! If you think your son or daughter might be interested in writing a blog or if you’d like some more information, please email [email protected].

Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated and will go a long way in helping us celebrate Foster Care Fortnight and reach others who might one day also become foster carers. Make sure to follow our social media channels and like, share and comment on all the amazing content we plan to post, all in dedication to the foster carers that help turn children’s lives around!
